The premise of Left Turn is as follows:
Stanley Roberts is an aging Detective who lives alone, likes his coffee, and is pretty much disgusted with everything else. Except the job. He knows his days are waning as he gets a step slower both physically and mentally but when a case comes across his desk that becomes his obsession, the death of a young girl he knew in passing, his fire is relit. With the help of a fresh-faced detective and his retired partner he gets deeper and deeper into something much different than he expected.
I want to keep it intentionally vague and almost generic in its premise so as to allow the thing to breathe on its own and do its slow burn over time. It’s rare that a daily strip comes along that doesn’t cater to delivering some punchline or answer at the end of its three panels and Left Turn‘s intention is to tell a dramatic story over a great deal of time that gets under your skin but doesn’t adhere to the convention of what a daily strip is. That said, we’ll launch the strip with a nice chunk of introductory strips to get you involved a little.
Above is a look at how the incredible Simon Wright is doing this strip, one he does all the art for and I do all the writing for. It’s only the beginning and I expect this thing to evolve nicely.
So, there’s your little peek. Stay tuned in the first week of September for when this bad boy really comes to life.
