A lot of geeks are going to walk away confused by Zack Snyder’s Superman.
According to an official press release from Warner Bros, Diane Lane is set to play Martha “Ma” Kent.
“This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman,” Synder says. “We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination.”
She’s also beautiful as hell. Lois Lane, you have some stiff competition here.
It’s perfect casting. Lane is not only beautiful, but she’s always had that quiet poise that makes her sympathetic and believable in any role. I don’t think there’s a single movie I’ve seen her in that she’s been miscast or failed to sell the story and the character.
If they can sign Costner (he remains in negotiations) Superman will have a young, vital, and memorable set of parents. I loved Glenn Ford and Phyllis Thaxter, and I thought Eva Maria Saint was a godsend. But it’s time for Superman to have parents who are able to keep up with him, his adventures, and his ongoing franchise.
