I suppose a "yeehaw" is in order…  I’m sure someone in Hollywood is saying it, thanks to a respectable opening for the big-screen remake of Dukes of Hazzard, which met its expected opening weekend earnings (a rare feat this summer).  Of course, with no other new competition opening on the weekend, the General Lee was bound to peel out with the top spot.

Things have stabilized on the rest of the chart, with Wedding Crashers continuing its remarkable buoyancy while Sky High and Must Love Dogs have settled into comfortable places in the middle of the list. The flightless bird documentary March of the Penguins persistently advances ever higher as megabudget fare such as Stealth and The Island plunge toward a swift demise. If only they had flippers.

Next weekend has the revenge flick Four Brothers and the long-delayed WWII movie The Great Raid facing a pair of horror movies, The Skeleton Key and Deuce Bigelow: European Gigolo.
