2K Games has recently announced that Mike Patton will be returning to his titular role in The Darkness II. The first game was known for its great voice acting and the Faith No More/Mr. Bungle/Fantomas singer was certainly an integral part of it, playing the demonic entity that takes over your character (poor mob lackey Jackie Estacado) on his 21st birthday. Patton’s voice is the whispery, demonic thing you’ll hear in the back of your head, pushing you towards violence and relishing every evil thing you do.
“It feels really good to be the bad guy, and The Darkness is as bad as it gets,” said Mike Patton. “I’ve read through the script and Jackie is going to be a brutally tortured soul. I’m looking forward to making his life a living hell.”
The man has lent his voice to quite a few video games at this point (the lead in Bionic Commando, the Anger Sphere from Portal, and many of the infected zombies from Left 4 Dead) but The Darkness definitely allows him to use his insane vocal stylings appropriately. It’s good to have him back.
