While many fedora fans anxiously await a fourth Indiana Jones movie and the more rational of us simply dread the very possibility of further convoluted treasure hunts and “comic relief” (see, it’s really his dog’s name! HAHAHAHAHA! Eh…), more rumors continue to spin that the character’s younger version will be heading to theaters.
The buzz we heard early in 2004 was that the beancounters would be “pulling a Firefly”, tracking the figures of the upcoming DVD box set of the Young Indy TV series to gauge the feasibility of a flick (a new paradigm initiated when Joss Whedon secured his Serenity feature based largely on the DVD sales of his canceled series). But since the Young Indiana Jones DVD has still yet to arrive and doesn’t even have an official release date announced, that doesn’t seem likely.
Or does it? According to an AICN scooper, George Lucas himself says a bunch of Young Indy educational videogames are being developed to coincide with a Young Indiana Jones feature that’s being prepped for 2007… long been the rumored release for Indiana Jones IV, which may mean this is simply a matter of misinterpretation. Or complete bullshit.
Either way, the promise/threat of a geriatric whip-cracking Jones adventure continues to lurch forward on rickety knees.
