Disney spent over a year advertising for their reboot of their ’80s sorta-dud Tron with the holiday release of Tron: Legacy. It worked: the film debuted at number one at the domestic box office and is now approaching a $170 million cume.
Next up now, of course, is raking it in on home video. Along with the release of Legacy on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital Copy, Movie Download, AND On-Demand, the original Jeff Bridges’ dude-in-a-computer flick gets the hi-def treatment, too.
While the Legacy Blu-ray version comes stacked with familiar special features (making of featurettes, behind the scenes, etc.), its the new Disney Second Screen feature that sets this one apart from the riff-raff:
Disney Second Screen transforms the movie watching experience by allowing viewers to explore the story behind the film perfectly synched on a second device, like an iPad™ or laptop, without interrupting their enjoyment of the movie. By simply accessing the Disney Second Screen companion application on their Internet-connected device, consumers are able to dive deeper into the film by engaging with elements including 360-degree vehicle turnarounds, interactive progression reels, and more. Disney Second Screen directions and access codes can be found inside the Blu-ray Disc packaging. Audio synching is powered by TVPLUS.
Must say that content creators are finding innovative ways to utilize all of these technological toys that people have nowadays, making them worthwhile not just for when you’re traveling but also to enhance the experience at home.
Both Tron: The Original Classic Special Edition and Tron: Legacy – along with Tron: Legacy RECONFIGURED, the Daft Punk-written score remixed on CD – will hit stores on April 5th.
