Many people have wanted to make a movie based on Marvel Comics’ espionage elitist, Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., but none have been able to come up with an actor who can fill the shoes of David Hasslehoff, who played the character in a Fox telemovie years ago. Now the word is that after he’s done running 16 Blocks with Mos Def, Bruce Willis will don the eyepatch.
This comes from SFX Magazine (by way of Dark Horizons), and I don’t know how reliable it is. Willis is interesting casting, and he could definitely do the grizzled vet thing. Actually, the more I think about it the better I like the casting, as long as they’re going with the regular Marvel Universe version of Fury. Not to get all nerdy on your asses, but the Ultimate Marvel version of Fury is based on Samuel L Jackson, who was supposedly attached to this project at some point in the past. That version of the character is much different than the white version – Ultimate Nick Fury is smoother, for one thing.
You have to imagine that a huge chunk of Fury’s origin will be chucked right out the window, namely that he has been alive since WWII thanks to some variation of the Super Soldier Serum that gave Captain America his powers. Fanboys will, of course, immolate themselves in front of Marvel Movies HQ in protest.
