I never thought that the much talked about Untouchables prequel would ever get off the ground. So color me doubly surprised that Brian DePalma is directing it.
Titled The Untouchables: Capone Rising, the movie is about – well, you figure it out for yourself, genius. DePalma, of course, directed the original way back in 1987, which brought together the bat wielding skills of Robert DeNiro and the crawling while wounded skills of Sean Connery to make a modern classic.
DePalma will reteam with producer Art Linson (whose books, by the way, especially What Just Happened? are great insidery Hollywood tales out of school) while Rounders writers Brian Koppelman and David Levien are scripting. In the film Capone will first butt heads with Jimmy Malone, the guy who grows up to be Connery, and thus should be played by Robbie Williams.
DePalma is finishing up work on The Black Dahlia, based on the James Ellroy book. There’s no projected release date for the Untouchables prequel yet.
