The concluding chapter of Chan Park-Wook’s astonishing vengeance trilogy, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, is almost out in Korea, and the trailer is here. I don’t speak a word of Korean (except "jaji", which sounds like "Chachi," and apparently means "dick") but I do enjoy Karaoke in Koreatown and I also enjoy the imagery of the trailer here.
It’s interesting to see Min-Sik Choi again, this time looking a little less tough than he did in the honest to fucking Christ classic Old Boy. There’s also a cool gun in here, and some other neat stuff. I’m hoping for a translation to be made available soon enough.
Most of you have probably seen or at least heard of Old Boy, the second film in the trilogy. I strongly urge you to find Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, the first film, which is an unremitting kidney punch of a film – and like all of Chan Park-Wook’s work, oddly lovely. You’ll also have a chance to see his short contribution to the Asian Director Dream Team movie, Three… Extremes when Lions Gate releases it this fall.
