Anne Hathaway seems to really dig taking the safe, family-friendly roles in Hollywood. She’s cute too. And 22 years old. Where’s the scandal? Where’s the controversy? She’s like the polar opposite of the Lohans and Hiltons of the world. Thank God for that.
Anyway, the perpetual princess will next be seen alongside Oscar magnet Meryl Streep in Fox 2000’s The Devil Wears Prada (I thought the devil wore Coach and cheated on you with older men… shit, did I just write that?). The David Frankel-directed adaptation of the Lauren Weisberger novel (scripted by Laws of Attraction‘s Aline Brosh McKenna) has Hathaway playing Andrea Sachs, "a small-town girl who gets a dream job working for a top fashion magazine, one that turns nightmarish because of her imperious boss", to be played by Streep. Hey, award statues don’t pay the heating bills!
Most recently, Hathaway wrapped the R-rated romantic drama Brokeback Mountain for the great Ang Lee (which I guess bucks the family-friendly trend for her) with co-stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Heath Ledger, Randy Quaid (?!), and Anna Faris.
The Devil Wears Prada is tentatively set to hit theaters later this year.
