SAWI hated the living shit out of the movie, but millions of Americans once again ignored my best advice and made the indie horror film Saw a surprise hit this weekend. Making 18 million dollars (and being the number one choice for moviegoers on Halloween), the movie "exceeded all our expectations," Lions Gate president Tom Oretenberg said.

And that, of course means a sequel has been greenlit and is being rushed into theaters for Halloween 2005. If you read my erudite and witty review you know that I totally called that, by the way – the movie ends on one of the most annoyingly sequel friendly notes ever.

There were apparently talks about a sequel before the film came out, which makes sense since Lions Gate was pimping the shit out of the thing forever. What role director James Wan and writer Leigh Wannell will have in Saw 2 is not known at this point.
