If Warner Bros. was hoping for Spider-Man-sized heaps of cash with their nipple-free Dark Knight reboot Batman Begins, they were probably more than a little disappointed with an opening weekend of $46 million (especially since last week’s winner Mr. and Mrs. Smith brought home more bacon). That kind of dough is certainly nothing to scoff at, but considering the prediction was closer to $60 million, will that new cape be strong enough to glide through the upcoming summer onslaught and build Bruce and his batty alter-ego back to a reliable franchise?
Movement on the rest of the chart was nominal, with most players taking a step down as the Batman landed on his perch, while the Hilary Duff romcom The Perfect Man found some of her remaining fans/pervs who were willing to bail on Bale.
Next week continues the busy days of summer with zombies (Land of the Dead), Lohan (Herbie Rides Again) and crap from TV (Bewitched).
