Tom Hanks’ Playtone and Universal Pictures have bought the life rights to Mark Felt and his family. You may recall that Felt was the stunningly disappointing person behind the Deep Throat monicker, the guy whose inside info led to the breaking of the Watergate scandal and the fall of the Nixon Administration.
Hanks and friends have bought Felt’s 1979 memoir (he used to be the #2 guy in the FBI. It’s how he got his info) as well as the Vanity Fair article where he outed himself, and another book Felt plans to write (sadly for Playtone it’s Felt’s bid to get on the Blue Collar Comedy Tour and it’s called You Might Be the Most Well Known Anonymous Source in History If…), so they’ll have plenty of ammunition to film the story of a man no one cared about until two weeks ago. Sadly the title Inside Deep Throat is taken.
One can only hope that seeing Deep Throat reap his rewards will make other people in the current administration consider coming forward with what they know. I mean right now Nixon is in Hell telling Roy Cohn he’s amazed at what Bush can get away with.
