The trio of the newest angels has been finalized, as Minka Kelly and Rachael Taylor join the previously cast Annie Ilonzeh in the upcoming reboot of Charlie’s Angels. Sony Pictures TV and Drew Barrymore’s Flower Films are producing the pilot for the planned remake, which will be set in Miami this time around. Ilonzeh was cast a week ago and Kelly and Taylor were announced today over at TVLine in an exclusive. The trio will consist of Marisa (Kelly), a former U.S. Marine, a weapons expert trained in all forms of hand-to-head combat, and a neat freak. Kate (Ilonzeh), is a very smart and very athletic ex-cop and a master of martial arts. She is the most serious of our three Angels, but also knows how to let her hair down and have a great time. Abby (Taylor), is the youngest and sassiest of the Angels. The beautiful and privileged daughter of a notorious Wall Street crook, she is an expert con artist herself, as well as a Krav Maga expert.
I suppose it was only a matter of time before this franchise was re-re-reimagined into a modern show. If there’s one constant in this new century, it’s that everything from last century is getting redone. In some cases, like Battlestar Galactica or Hawaii Five-O, it works. In other cases like Knight Rider or The Bionic Woman, not so much. Ilonzeh is primarily known for for her role of Maya Ward on General Hospital; she’s also had roles on the Melrose Place reboot and in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. Taylor has appeared in See No Evil, Transformers and the TV series, Headland. Kelly is best known as Lyla Garrity on Friday Night Lights and also had roles in Parenthood and the upcoming The Roommate. Robert Wagner is already on board to portray Charlie. Alfred Gough, Miles Millar, original series producer, Leonard Goldberg, Barrymore and Nancy Juvonen are producing. Gough and Millar wrote the script.
Still no word, however, on a Fox Force Five remake.
