In the early 1980s, in small-town Texas, dramatic events force a 19-year-old skating rink manager to look at his life in a very new way.
– the IMDb’s summation blurb for Skateland.
Skateland is a new coming-of-age indie drama from first time writer/director Anthony Burns, and it stars Twilight hottie Ashley Greene, as well as up-and-comer Shiloh Fernandez and indie perennial James LeGros. The film may in fact be quite good, I don’t know, but I felt like using the IMDb’s spiritless description because that’s how rote the film’s new trailer makes it seem. Adventureland meets Dazed and Confused, minus the sharp humor.
Enough with the 70’s/80’s already. Where are all our coming-of-age period pieces about the 90’s? That generation of filmmakers is either pushing or past 30 at this point. Come on, you bums. I wanna see some flannel!
