Some men really don’t have any limitations.
According to Deadline Hollywood Daily, Clint Eastwood will be directing the long-gestating remake of A Star is Born. Beyonce Knowles will star, and the hunt is on for the battered male lead. If he was about 30 or 40 years younger, Eastwood himself would probably take it. (It would have worked. Haven’t you ever seen Honkytonk Man?)
It’s a surprising choice for Eastwood, even if he’s made a point of picking the oddest and most unlikely projects for himself lately. But he’s always been drawn to music, though an actual musical (which is what this is being touted as) seems to go against his tastes of simple one-draft one-take projects.
And Beyonce…well. Who knows? I haven’t been impressed with her acting ability, but I’d love to be surprised. But her involvement seems like mere stunt casting, and an attempt to grab the widest demographic possible. The story has to hinge on her, and no matter how strong the male lead is, it will fall apart if she can’t cry convincingly at the end.
This is going to be interesting. That’s all I can really say. I have to hand it to Eastwood for constantly raising eyebrows.
