Remember when the Farrelly Brothers were the shiznit in Hollywood? What happened to them? The easy answer, of course, is Stuck on You and Shallow Hal and Me, Myself and Irene. There’s probably some deeper issue, something to do with a reaction to sudden fame and fortune, but it really boils down to the fact that they haven’t made a good film since There’s Something About Mary.
Although maybe that indicates that they aren’t as good as we all thought. They’re going to get a chance to prove me wrong, though – the Brothers have signed on to remake The Heartbreak Kid for Dreamworks. The original, written by Neil Simon, was about a guy who hastily marries a woman he thinks he loves – and then he falls in love with someone else on his honeymoon.
Jason Bateman was attached to the film at one point, but word is now that the Farrellys are onboard they’re starting from scratch, including cast and script.
