Every time I look at the teaser poster for 30 Days of Night, I see 300. It’s the red, and the splatters, and the font. Oh, and the pose. The ‘based on the graphic novel’ tag has nothing to do with it, though.
30 Days of Night is indeed based on the graphic novel of the same name. It’s got Josh Hartnett and Melissa George as a sheriff and deputy husband and wife who encounter a big supernatural problem during one of those month-long periods of darkness that make The University of Alaska one of the nation’s top party schools. The film is directed by Hard Candy‘s David Slade, presumably no relation to fallen pop idol Brian Slade.
