Coming Soon has the first image from the upcoming Paul W.S. Anderson adaptation of the Alexandre Dumas classic, The Three Musketeers.
The snap shows, from left to right, Matthew Macfadyen (Athos), Logan
Lerman (D’Artagnan), Ray Stevenson (Porthos, and FYI, The Three Musketeers: War Zone would rock) and Luke Evans
(Aramis). Also starring are Christoph Waltz (Cardinal
Richelieu, i.e. the bad guy), Milla Jovovich (M’lady De Winter…W.S.
is directing and it’s in 3D, so she was a foregone inclusion), Mads
Mikkelsen (Rochefort), James Corden (Planchet) and Orlando Bloom (Duke
of Buckingham).
I skipped over The Musketeer (a wise choice from what I hear), so it’s been some 13 years since I saw D and the gang crossing swords in The Man in the Iron Mask.
But I’m still kind of partial to Stephen Herek’s freewheeling 1993
version. Call it Wincott-envy if you must. IMDB
has the synopsis for this go-round as so: The hot-headed
young D’Artagnan along with three former legendary but now down on their
luck Musketeers must unite and defeat a beautiful double agent and her
villainous employer from seizing the French throne and engulfing Europe
in war.
From
the image, the young Lerman looks a little waifish to be handling the heavy
combat to me. Chris O’Donnell was at least in his early 20s
when he slipped on the tunic and butterknife. Not sure if Percy Jackson has the “heart of a Musketeer” or not. Guess we’ll find out October 14, 2011. Long time to wait, but as long as Stevenson works in some kind of repeating-action, automatic musket, I’ll be good. You can click the image to enlarge.
