This isn’t really news, per se, but I figured some of you would be interested in the fact that TCM will be honoring the late Blake Edwards with a marathon of his films on Monday, December 27th. If you haven’t already, take a look at Dre’s wonderful write-up on the director’s career.
From TCM Host Robert Osborne, “From Operation Petticoat to the wonderful Victor/Victoria, Blake Edwards made watching movies a consistently entertaining and enjoyable experience. But he could also emotionally touch you with a dramatic story such as Days of Wine and Roses or a romantic tale like Breakfast at Tiffany’s. We’re very proud at TCM to pay tribute to this extremely versatile filmmaker.”
The schedule is as follows (all times Eastern):
8 p.m. – Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961) – starring Audrey Hepburn, George Peppard, Patricia Neal, Buddy Ebsen and Mickey Rooney.
10 p.m. – Days of Wine and Roses (1962) – starring Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick.
Midnight – The Pink Panther (1964) – starring Peter Sellers, David Niven, Robert Wagner, Capucine and Claudia Cardinale.
2 a.m. – Victor/Victoria (1982) – starring Julie Andrews, Robert Preston, James Garner and Lesley-Ann Warren.
4:30 a.m. – Operation Petticoat (1959) – starring Cary Grant, Tony Curtis and Dina Merrill.
This takes the place of the sci-fi lineup originally slated for that evening, which included The Thing From Another World, 2001 and Solaris. While that’s a marathon I would have certainly tuned in for, this is definitely worthy of taking its spot.
TCM is probably my favorite channel on (basic) cable, and it’s things like this that underscore why. So be sure to set your DVRs and tune in for a pretty spectacular lineup from one of the greats. And just for the hell of it, I’ve also included this year’s incredibly classy TCM Remembers video below.
