  • The A-Team only helped to continue my love of Joe Carnahan’s work. What began as Part 2 of the Liam Neeson grief tour has become an action movie that stood heads and tails above all challengers. Hell, it had a coherent plot and it didn’t have to force unnecessary character twists into the mix to push the story along. Some people have a problem with Carnahan’s past work on films like Smokin’ Aces, Narc and whatever the fuck he did that wasn’t those flicks. But, the guy is stepping into his own style while advancing past a lot of his old hat. You also get the prawn guy from Africa playing Murdoch.

    THE TOWN

    • Commentary on both versions by Ben Affleck

    • Ben’s Boston: Actor-director Ben Affleck takes you through the
moviemaking process in his hometown. Segments include: The Cathedral of
Boston; Nuns with Guns: Filming in the North End; Pulling Off the
Perfect Heist; The Town: and more

The Town remains one of my favorite films of the year. It’s not Top 10 material, but it has gone to show that Affleck is a capable director who knows how to get what he wants out of a cast. Some might say that he’s a poor man’s Michael Mann, but I feel that’s being a little too harsh. While the guy’s never going to win any major acting awards, he can develop a rapport with character actors that generates into amazing chemistry onscreen. I’d just like to see the guy learn how to work outside of the crime drama. Fuck, just shoot a movie outside of Boston.

    THE OTHER GUYS
