Back in the late 90’s Darkchylde appeared on the comic world and proceeded to outsell old standards such as Superman, Spider-Man and Battle Bitches. While news of a film version is hardly a surprise, the real shock is who’s tapped to direct… from the press release:
“Master of Horror set to bring you the girl of your dreams. John Carpenter is onboard to direct Darkchylde, based on the comic by Randy Queen about a good hearted southern teen cursed to become the creatures from her many recurring nightmares. Every time Ariel Chylde transforms, she sheds her skin and a new nightmare emerges from her Id to act out her deepest, darkest impulses”.
I’m not sure Carps has deserved the “Master of Horror” title in decades, but regardless he’s got it and he’s doing his best to help connect this new movie with one from his past, back when he really was a Master. He says “Randy Queen’s hijacked angel, Ariel Chylde, is the best young female character since Laurie Strode in Halloween. Bringing Ariel and her dark mysteries to life should be quite an adventure for us all”.
Weta Workshop is handling the effects, so hopefully the transformations and the creatures will be worth seeing. Other than that have a look at the teaser and then head to our message boards and spout about how shitty you think it looks, or how much you love winged blonde chicks holding skulls.
