While he can currently (sort of) be seen in Woody Allen’s You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger – which we reviewed – Antonio Banderas hasn’t lost the desire to direct things.
Variety is shouting about the Spanish star looking at helming a thriller called Solo, which will be about a Spanish colonel who has a serious case of trauma stemming from a recent Spanish conflict. It’s being called a “psychological thriller with sci-fi touches”, which sounds promising if not extremely vague.
Although it bothers him to do it, he plans on shooting in English in the hope of reaching a larger audience. That’s a shame this concession had to be made so early in the production, but it’s obviously a business thing. I just hope the performances don’t suffer from it; subtitles are a great thing… use them!
He’s hoping to start shooting this next year, with a possible 2012 release.
