Steven Spielberg has agreed to direct Daniel Wilson’s Robopocalypse, the story about a robotic rebellion against their human masters. Deadline
says Spielberg is super excited about the project, so hopefully that’s a
good thing! The book isn’t even out (June 2011), and yet Drew Goddard (Cloverfield) has been working with Spielberg on the script, writing it at the same pace Wilson was turning in his own pages.
Wilson has written some other satirical Robot books (although Robopocalypse doesn’t appear to be satirical), usually with short titles like How To Survive a Robotic Uprising: Tips on Defending Yourself Against the Coming Rebellion and How To Build a Robot Army: Tips on Defending Planet Earth Against Aliens, Ninjas and Zombies.
Mr. Spielberg hopes to start filming in early 2012, with a 2013 release year tentatively scheduled.
