Fox sure knows how to cancel popular animated shows not called The Simpsons only to have them live on with a cult following growing so large that they end up back on the air years later.

Maybe it’s some sort of master plan.  But, I doubt it.

Either way, it worked out well for the ubiquitous Family Guy.  And now Futurama has a second life on Comedy Central, with its first new, made-for-TV half-hour episodes produced since it was originally canceled back in 2003.  If you missed this re-premiere back in July, come December 21st, you can own your copy.

Futurama: Volume 5 is actually the home version of the broadcast sixth season and it’s the first time you can catch Fry, Bender, Leela, and the rest of the crew in Blu-ray.  Also available on DVD, the set will include 13 episodes along with hours of extras like deleted and extended scenes, audio commentaries, and some featurettes.

The 2-disc Blu-ray edition should go for $49.99 while the DVD will set you back $39.98.
