As if the trailer wasn’t hooking me enough, I love the new poster for Ben Affleck’s upcoming The Town. No photoshopped floating head dullness to be found here, just dudes pulling a heist in style. It’s exactly how the Dead Presidents would have gotten down if they were parochial school rejects. Based on Chuck Hogan’s novel, Prince of Thieves, The Town revolves around four bank robbers from Charlestown, MA. Affleck plays Doug MacRay, one of the thieves who falls for Claire (Rebecca Hall), a bank manager whom the crew had to kidnap in order to effect an escape. As they were all wearing masks, Claire has no idea with whom she’s becoming involved. Meanwhile, Doug is struggling on both sides with the authorities, led by determined FBI agent (Jon Hamm) determined to put him in prison, and his own crew, who think Claire is a liability they can’t afford.
Jeremy Renner, Blake Lively, Chris Cooper and Pete Postlethwaite also star.If this turns out to be as good as it looks, and after Gone Baby Gone, Affleck may just be in danger of becoming one of our best filmmakers. Be that as it may, though, as a resident of L.A., I have serious issue with that tagline. I’m just sayin’…
