I’d rather have George Lucas bring Jar Jar Binks back for his own movie franchise á la the Ewoks than endure another entry in the exceedingly unfunny Family Guy‘s Star Wars send-up series.
Unfortunately (for me), that’s just not going to happen.
There were so many unanswered questions from Family Guy: Blue Harvest and Family Guy: Something, Something, Something, Dark Side — and from all of the random Star Wars-related non sequiturs from the TV show — that they just had to bring us Family Guy: It’s A Trap! (It’s like they’re not even trying with the titles anymore, either.)
As you’ve probably figured out already, this third installment follows the Return of the Jedi storyline, only replacing memorable characters like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Darth Vader with the achingly less-funny-by-the-episode Griffin family. Tired comedic hijinx ensues. (Gee, I wonder which character will get hit in the knee and cry “Ow!” over and over for entirely too long this time.)
If you’re one of those who just can’t get enough Family Guy no matter how re-re-reheated the material or how repetitive the gags, then be sure to circle December 21st on your calendar so you don’t miss your chance to be the first to pick up this gem.
And to really experience all of the Joe-as-Jabba-the-Hutt hilarity as it’s meant to be seen, it’ll also be available the same day in Blu-ray, as well as part of a DVD triple-pack featuring all three of the Family Guy Star Wars spoofs.
One can only hope that MacFarlane and Co. have learned from Lucas’s mistakes and spare us the send-ups of Episodes 1-3.
