The Lowdown
Super Why! is a Nickelodeon cartoon that teaches kids the alphabet and the importance of words. The main character is Whyatt, a boy with a “Super Computer” that lets him know when someone needs help. Whenever he finds someone in need, Whyatt becomes Super Why and calls together The Super Readers (Pig, Red Riding Hood and Princess Pea). They set out to save the day through “the power of reading.”
This set includes off takes of fairy tales. They use the stories Jack and the Beanstalk, The Princess and the Pea, The Three Little Pigs and Little Red Riding Hood to teach life lessons while helping little kids learn how to spell. The show is interactive and, when Super Why asks a question, he pauses long enough to allow the viewers to come up with the answer. The songs are also upbeat and had my son dancing in front of the TV as they played.
The show is somewhat goofy, but that is perfect for the age group it is made for. Super Why is a great cartoon for small children who are ready to start learning and this DVD features some fun, educational shorts.
