Disney announced today three of their films for 2011 that will be getting the IMAX Treatment: Pirates of the Caibbean: On Stranger Tides, Cars 2 and Mars Needs Moms, says ComingSoon: Commenting on the announcement, Chuck Viane, president of distribution,
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures said, “The incredible performance
of our IMAX releases in 2009 and 2010 demonstrated that the combination
of IMAX and Disney resonates with moviegoers worldwide. We’re very much
looking forward to continuing this great partnership through 2011 with
an incredible slate of exciting films. The IMAX Experience adds another
level of impact and excitement to a movie, and with these new films, made by some of the industry’s most innovative filmmakers, audiences are in for are real treat.”
Mars Needs Moms is directed by Simon Wells and is based on the Berkeley Breathed children’s novel that centers on a boy who must save his mother when she’s kidnapped by Martians. It stars Seth Green, Mindey Serling, Joan Cusack and Dan Fogler. Cars 2 is the sequel to probably Pixar’s least appealing film (still waiting on my Incredibles 2, please Mr. Bird), and Pirates is the search for more treasure…by Disney.
