WARNERS, DC ARE PUTTING THEIR GREEN IN THE BANK

Screw the recession.  Warner Bros. and DC are getting into the futures market when it comes to a possible Green Lantern 2.  THR.com reports that a treatment for the possible (and hopefully likely) sequel has already been commissioned, even though the original is still a year out from release.  Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim, all of whom worked on
the Lantern screenplay, to write a treatment for the second
installment.  Furthermore, the trio have also been asked to do a similar job for an upcoming Flash feature film. 

Of course, this isn’t a guarantee that the sequel is already a done deal. What it does mean, though, is that, should the first GL do well (fingers crossed on that), then the start up time on the sequel would be reduced by potentially months.  The deal with the trio of writers also says that they will then script one of the two projects, although which hasn’t yet been specified.  The article also says that the version of Flash that will be utilized is the Barry Allen incarnation, which was recently worked on by chief creative officer of DC Entertainment and noted DC writer, Geoff Johns.

Greg Berlanti is known for creating Everwood and exec producing ABC’s Brothers & Sisters, while Guggenheim is currently exec producing ABC’s upcoming No Ordinary Family.  And Green is the creator of NBC’s Kings and worked with Berlanti on Everwood.  Green Lantern is starring Ryan Reynolds and is currently filming in New Orleans under the direction of Martin Campbell.
