Just this morning I saw an incredible movie called Save the Green Planet. It’s a Korean film from 2003 that’s only now getting an American release, and it’s stunning and bizarre and funny and sad and gory and weird. I’m describing it as King of Comedy meets They Live: A man is convinced that aliens are among us, and planning the end of the world. It just so happens that his ex-boss, who may have been responsible for his girlfriend’s death and his mom being in a coma, is one of those aliens. Or so he thinks. Along with his circus performer girlfriend our hero kidnaps the executive and proceeds to torture him to get the truth.
My full review will run next week, but I think this is another example of how 2005 is shaping up to be the year of great foreign films (even if they are old. They’re new to us!). Now you can get a look at what this film is all about – the trailer is available. And it shows one of my favorite scenes in any movie in recent memory – a guy is being attacked by a swarm of bees and fires a gun into it – killing one bee at a time. Check out the website here and then…
