Some sites have good sources at particular studios. For IESB.net it’s Fox – Tom Rothman loves those guys. So when you see a Fox scoop breaking at IESB, there’s usually something behind it (or Rothman is using the internet to wage war in some way). With that in mind the latest rumors in the long history of Independence Day rumors carry some weight.

According to IESB Fox is hot to get Independence Day 2 happening, and they got all the post-Avatar money in the world to make it so. The site says that the previous biggest hurdle to getting a movie off the ground hasn’t just been jumped, it’s been launched over – the studio is ponying up not only to get the expensive Will Smith in the movie, they’re paying him for a part 3 as well.

If everything works out and all the deals are signed, Roland Emmerich would be back and the film could start shooting as early as 2011, after the director and the star do their next projects. IESB speculates that Independence Day 2 and 3 could shoot back to back.

Imagine Emmerich topping the inanity and insanity of 2012. I am so on board.
