There are no less the 37 American Pie spin-off direct to video movies, at least a dozen of which are deemed unfit for human viewing by the federal government and have been dumped into the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench.
But the interest remains in this faded and flaccid series, even though Stifler’s Mom is now a Great Grandma I’d Like To Not Sit Too Near (GGILTNSTN), and so Universal is looking to revive it as a theatrical franchise. With a reboot. That could feature some of the original actors.
Unless the story is about grown up Jim returning to visit his home and discovering that history is looping (with slight variations) and his original pie-fucking adventures are being relived by some new kid, this cannot be a reboot. Unless they just cast Eugene Levy as Jim’s dad again and start over with an otherwise completely new crew. Levy has been willing to appear in pretty much every American Pie spin-off film, even American Pie Presents An Eyeful of Hatefucking (currently stored in a lead-lined concrete bunker 78 miles beneath the Nevada desert), so he’d surely be up for this one.
Universal has hired Harold and Kumar writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, so at least there could be an ok joke or two in the picture.
