I ran into Richard Gale, the director of the short film The Incredibly Slow Murderer With the Extremely Inefficient Weapon at a Fantastic Fest-sponsored karaoke party in Santa Monica last week. Richard told me that his short, which my Horror Shorts Jury at Fantastic Fest 2008 awarded with a special prize for creativity, was on YouTube now and doing gangbusters. And I understand why – Richard takes a one-joke premise, extends it to ten minutes and makes it completely work. I think this is the kind of short that horror fans will really, really appreciate. And it was made on a shoe string budget but ends up looking really fantastic. I can’t wait to see what Richard has up his sleeve next.
