G.I. Joe – The Rise of Cobra is a piece of garbage. But, it’s an expected piece of garbage. If you’re of a certain age and you believe that a toy line can be made into a well-crafted film…life passed you by. If you desperately want to dig and find some camp value in the failed acting of Channing Tatum…life passed you by. If you want to pick this movie up on the cheap, head over to Wal-Mart on Tuesday.

The Taking of Pelham 123 is such a letdown. Most remakes tend to think that they have something to prove and they want to broadly repair material that isn’t broken. I can’t completely write the film off, since Tony Scott and Denzel Washington are a power coupling that can make a lot out of lesser material. The failure of the film falls squarely on the shoulders of John Travolta. The man possesses such glamour mugging that it’s hard to believe in the story anymore. You forget plot, you forget character development and you forget why you’re watching the movie. All you see is the same jackass that ruined Lucky Numbers. It’s a shame, really. You cut Travolta out of the picture and you’ve got a decent crime flick.
