Looks like we may finally get that Matt-Damon-in-chaps fantasy fulfilled…
*Ahem*
Anyway, Variety reports that Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are in talks to join the Coen Bros.’ planned remake of John Wayne’s 1969 classic, True Grit. The erstwhile Jason Bourne and Jonah Hex would be joining the already-cast Jeff Bridges, who will be portraying the titular character in the planned Paramount remake. The original, which earned The Duke his first Oscar, centers on a grizzled old U.S. marshal who tracks a 14-year-old girl’s father’s killer into hostile territory with a lawman (Glen Campbell in the original, Matt Damon in the remake) and the girl.
Brolin, who’s been spending a bit of time out West lately, would portray the killer, originally embodied by Jeff Corey. The film is planned for a March start and a fall release next year. Brolin is also due to appear in Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps and Cartel, while Damon is currently shooting George Nolfi’s The Adjustment Bureau.
