Matt Damon tells Female First that he’s going to be reteaming with his Ocean’s buddy George Clooney for a War on Terror courtroom drama, Hamdan v Rumsfeld. The movie is based on the true story of Osama bin Laden’s driver, who was rounded up and imprisoned in Guantanamo Bay. He filed a writ of habeus corpus, claiming that the military tribunals he faced were illegal, and his case made it to the Supreme Court – where he won. The Court found that the tribunals didn’t have “the power to proceed because its structures and procedures violate both the Uniform Code of Military Justice and the four Geneva Conventions signed in 1949.”
Damon would be playing Hamdan’s lawyer, Lieutenant Commander Charles Swift. It’s unclear when the film would start shooting, but it does certainly have Oscar bait written all over it.
