Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull didn’t ruin the previous Indiana Jones films in the way that the Matrix sequel ruined the original; it may be because there was such a huge amount of time between the new Indy and The Last Crusade, or it may be because Kingdom really barely feels like a legit Indiana Jones movie. That said, we shouldn’t tempt fate, and an Indiana Jones 5 should be nipped in the bud before George Lucas is allowed to destroy another of his franchises.
Harrison Ford tells Le Figaro, a French paper, that it’s not too late to stop this atrocity. While the story has been nailed down – or at least the archeological MacGuffin has been decided upon – the script is still a long ways off. “The story for the new ‘Indiana Jones’ is in the process of taking form,” Ford explained. “Steven Spielberg,
George Lucas and myself are agreed on what the fifth adventure will
concern, and George is actively at work. If the script is good, I’ll be
very happy to put the costume on again.”
The good news is that it took decades for Crystal Skull to actually happen, despite the story being cracked. And even then, it took a pending strike to put Spielberg’s ass in the director’s chair. I don’t see any real reason for Spielberg to go back for round five, and it’s possible that he’s just stringing George along so that the dude doesn’t start crying or something.
Let’s hope.
