In a story circulating various sites, but which I caught on the always trusty IMDB news wire, Robin Williams is reportedly in talks to play Scottish singer Susan Boyle in a planned biopic. Boyle shot to literal overnight stardom this past summer when appearing on Britain’s Got Talent and showcasing an unexpected classical vocal range, wowing the show’s judges and subsequently audiences worldwide.
As noted as she is for her voice, Boyle is also recognized as perhaps being more than a bit on the doudy side. However, portraying her would seem to be right up the alley of Williams, who previously played the mannish Mrs. Doubtfire. Said Williams on the prospect: “I’ve been asked if I want to play Susan in the movie. I think she’s incredible. That clip of her singing on Britain’s Got Talent
was extraordinary. So inspiring. It was quite a shock when she began to
sing. I saw some other clip of her singing Cry Me A River a few years
ago. It was incredible. She’s got a really great voice.” Heh. Okay…
