As a follow up to a story reported a couple of weeks ago, Catherine Hardwicke, the ousted director from the Twilight series, has glommed onto another little werewolf tale, this time without any emo vamps running around, but rather a girl with a penchant for red hoodies, reports Variety. Hardwicke has landed the helming gig on David Johnson’s and Leonardo DiCaprio’s goth take on Little Red Riding Hood called, appropriately enough, The Girl With The Red Riding Hood.
When the original story came out about DiCaprio’s and Johnson’s (Orphan) involvement, speculation emerged on how the wolf would be portrayed, considering the various permutations the Red Riding Hood story has undergone going back to the Middle Ages and of course, the Grimm take on it. Now it appears that it will indeed be a werewolf and, get this: with a teenage love triangle at its center. Well, who better then to tackle this if not Hardwicke…unless Len Wiseman is free of course.
Hardwicke also reportedly has several other projects lined up, including Hamlet at Overture, If I Stay at Summit, plus 21 Jump Street and Maximum Ride at Sony. No word on whether or not there are any monsters in any of those, but an emo Hamlet slurping down the brains out of Yorick’s freshly-killed skull could be an interesting take on that tale…
