You can tell a lot about a person from the miscellaneous collection of
DVD’s stacked next to their television set. Every film we own says a little bit about us, whether
we’d like it to… or not. So I’ve decided to turn this uncompromising
insight on myself by analyzing my entire DVD collection… one impulse
buy at a time.
DAY 13: 28 DAYS LATER
WHAT IT’S ABOUT:
A naked Sandra Bullock (looking too much like a
hairy Cillian Murphy… damn) wakes up from that horrible rehab movie
just in time to find the world overrun by fast zombies (not those slow
ass ones from the days before color). So he/she meets a girl and her
boyfriend, watches said girl kill said boyfriend with a machete (guess
she’s single now), goes on a family road trip, joins the military, and
finds out that the whole world doesn’t suck… just England.
WHY I BOUGHT IT:
You
kidding? This movie made zombies cool again. But I will say, thank God
they didn’t use all those stupid endings they came up with. Replacing
Cillian’s blood? It’s amazing how close good movies come to going
horribly wrong.
WHAT IT SAYS ABOUT ME:
Before I saw this, I
caught an interview with the director talking about how the film is
really a metaphor for the psychological growth of a man (childhood,
adolescents, father as provider, father as warrior, etc.). So after the
film was over, I rattled off all the symbolism to my friends,
pretending to be really observant and intellectual and making them
think I came up with all of it on my own. Sue me for wanting to be
loved.
Hit me back. Until next time…
