Scifi.com has word that Katee Sackhoff mentioned on her Facebook page recently that her old pal Leoben (aka Callum Keith Rennie) will be rejoining her for Season 8 of 24. Said Sackhoff: “How cool is that? I have missed my Battlestar castmates. We all should just be on 24! : )” No word yet on what role Rennie will be portraying, but I always enjoy his work best when he plays a character that’s just to the left of center, and a juicy bad guy role would suit him vey well I think. Sackhoff has already been announced as portraying hotshot CTU analyst Dana Walsh.
They’ll both be joining returning cast members Kiefer Sutherland, Cherry Jones, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Annie Wersching, Elisha Cuthbert and Bob Gunton. New additions for Season 8, which is set to take place in New York, include Anil Kapoor, Jennifer Westfeldt, John Boyd and Freddie Prinze, Jr. Kapoor will be featured as Mideast leader Omar Hassan, Westfeldt as journalist Meredith Reed, Boyd as CTU systems analyst Jonah Schwartz, and Prinze as CTU Field leader Cole Ortiz.
A quick check of Wikipedia reveals the following details about Season 8 as they’re known right now: Season Eight will begin and end at 4:00PM, unfolding in New York City amidst the shadows of the Statue of Liberty and the United Nations where CTU has been upgraded and is run by the MBA-schooled Brian Hastings. Cole Ortiz (Freddie Prinze Jr.), an ex-Marine who wants to follow in Jack Bauer’s footsteps, runs the division’s Field Operations. Expert data analyst Dana Walsh (Katee Sackhoff) collaborates with systems analyst Arlo Glass inside CTU. Rob Weiss serves as President Alison Taylor’s new chief of staff, and Meredith Reed is an ambitious journalist with ties to the unfolding situation. Wiki also has it that there may be a more significant time jump to allow Jack Bauer’s granddaughter, Teri, to be old enough for “meaningful dialogue.” Hopefully said dialogue won’t be, “Help, I’ve been kidnapped.”
