Columbia has just announced that they’re making an adaptation of the single best reason to own a PS3, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.
Anyone unfamiliar with Naughty Dog’s game, it’s the one most easily (and unfairly) described as Tomb Raider with a guy. You play as Drake, a treasure hunter and descendant of famous explorer Sir Francis Drake. He’s following his ancestor’s path for clues on the location of El Dorado, and anything he can sell along the way. Course there’s another group of people hunting for the exact same thing, and they soon learn that there’s creatures to contend with too- strange, mutated descendants of Nazis and Spaniards trapped underground since WWII.
Producers Avi Arad, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner have settled on Kyle Ward to write the script. He’s been becoming the go-to guy for video game adaptations lately, just having written Kane & Lynch (coming our way with Bruce Willis) and Hitman 2, which no one really wanted. To be completely honest, you wouldn’t need to deviate heavily from the video game script to make a great movie that could easily rival the latest Indiana Jones– not that that’s saying much- because the story was already incredibly compelling, with dialogue and voice acting that could rival most anything Hollywood puts out.
It’ll be interesting to see who they drag up for the roles. It’ll never happen but it would nice to see the voice of Drake, Nolan North, get the lead…
