However the Alien franchise ends up, it’s probably safe to say that the long-rumored Sigourney Weaver / Ridley Scott dream revisit won’t be happening, at least not in the manner Weaver has been pushing it for years. But just because the erstwhile Ripley might not be running up on any more xenomorphs, that doesn’t mean that Ms. Weaver is done with aliens. Hell, it seems as if half her career has been spent around them: four Alien films, Galaxy Quest, the upcoming Avatar, Ghostbusters I & II (technically, Gozer and Vigo were in the city, county and state of New York illegally). And now she’s just signed up for another pair of films, one of them being the comedy You Again, and the other, Paul, which just happens to be about an alien.
You Again sees Weaver starring alongside Kristen Bell for director Andy Fickman (Race To Witch Mountain). In the film, Bell will play a young woman who returns home for her brother’s wedding
and is horrified to find he’s marrying her high school nemesis. Weaver
will play the bride’s filthy-rich aunt. But Weaver’s role in Paul, alongside Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, is being kept hush hush for the moment. That film finds the two as sci-fi fans who come across an escaped alien (voiced by Seth Rogen) near Area 51 and try to help it escape.
Weaver also has Tim Allen’s upcoming Crazy On The Outside and a certain third entry in a spectral franchise on her plate. Personally, I’d rather have Galaxy Quest 2 instead.
