So if The Brothers Grimm had still featured Monica Bellucci, but wasn’t directed by Terry Gilliam and had Nic Cage in one of the two lead roles, would she still be enough to earn a ticket? Right, probably not. So I imagine the news that Bellucci has been cast in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice as a sorceress who once was in love with Cage’s sorcerer won’t do much to change anyone’s plans to see the film.
It’s possible that this isn’t a huge role — in the script draft I’ve got we see the character mostly in flashbacks, and in a couple scenes at the end of the story. She’s the pretty, classic love interest, and that’s about it. Too bad she’s not playing Morgana le Fay. With Alfred Molina and Toby Kebbell also on deck, this is becoming a fun cast, and the script even has some fun moments. If only I could muster any confidence in it.
