By now you probably know that we here at CHUD think Anvil: The Story of Anvil is one of the best documentaries we’ve seen in some time. Both Alex and I have fallen in love with the film and with the band. Anvil is a real life Canadian heavy metal band who was at the forefront of the scene in the 80s, inspiring bands like Metallica, Megadeath and Anthrax, but Anvil never quite found the success their followers did. Twenty years later they’re still on the road, reaching for the stars. Anvil: The Story of Anvil isn’t a movie just for metal-heads – in fact, even if you don’t like metal I’ll bet you love the movie. It’s a film for anyone who ever had a dream and kept with it. While Anvil: The Story of Anvil plays more than once like a real life Spinal Tap, it’s also a really moving, sweet story about a bunch of guys who never figured out how to give up. It’s inspirational, funny and amazing.
The band Anvil has been showing up to rock the house after select screenings of the movie across the country and this Wednesday after the 10:30 show they’re going to be at the NuArt in Los Angeles. We have some pairs of tickets to give away to loyal readers. I’ve seen Anvil perform after the film and everybody in the audience has a great time. Hell, I was at the LA premiere and saw Dustin Hoffman headbanging to the band’s hit Metal on Metal!
