A couple days ago Jon Favreau promised (via Twitter) that today we’d see the first photo from Iron Man 2. And voila, right after midnight USA Today posted a shot of Tony Stark in his workshop with a bunch of armor suits in the background. There’s not much new here. Stark looks a bit older, a bit more worn, and maybe (maybe?) one of those suits is new. And what’s in the box?
The article has a bit on the plot, which mostly confirms what we’ve known. It begins six months after the end of Iron Man, enough time for Tony’s identity as shellhead to make a mark in the world and have consequences on his life. “How many superheroes are open about their true identities?” asks Favreau. “We wanted to play with that idea. But it obviously has consequences — in his relationships, on the team. There are a lot of areas we can explore.” They’re trying to keep a lot of the plot details under wraps, which I respect. Too many summer movies come into the market as largely known quantities. This one has the potential to surprise, and I’d like it to actually be given the chance to follow through. (Translation: I, for one, won’t be reporting every damn plot detail that surfaces.)
Favreau has also confirmed (again via Twitter) that he shot material with Mad Men‘s John Slattery.
