I’m not going to mince words here: I hated Dead Snow. I wanted to walk out of the comedic Nazi zombie movie twenty minutes in. And while I still haven’t finished my review of this terrible film, I carry the pain of sitting through the movie with me every day.
But just because I thought it was a particularly unfunny, tedious and obvious rip-off of the early works of Peter Jackson and Sam Raimi doesn’t mean everybody agrees. For instance the guys at Gary Sanchez obviously disagree; Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s production company is producing Dead Snow director Tommy Wirkola’s next film, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.
The idea is that the movie picks up 15 years after the events of the fairy tale, with Hansel and Gretel traveling the world killing witches. This sort of sounds like a one-shot episode of Angel to me, but McKay thinks it’s got a lot of potential.
“The idea is, they’ve grown up and they hunt witches,” McKay said.
“It’s a hybrid sort of old-timey feeling, yet there’s pump-action
shotguns. Modern technology but in an old style. We heard it and we
were just like, ‘That’s a freakin’ franchise! You could make three
of those!’ “
