Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo made a name for themselves with À l’intérieur, aka Inside, which featured Beatrice Dalle trying to cut a baby from the justifiably horrified Alysson Paradis. That was the birthing moment for the weird subgenre of pregnancy horror/sci-fi that continues with Grace (excellent) and the experimental From Inside (very not excellent).
Now Maury and Bustillo, having skipped off the Hellraiser remake project, are back with Livid. Twitch has the first poster and synopsis:
It’s young Lucy’s first day as a trainee in-house caregiver. She visits Mrs Jessel, an old woman who lies in cerebral coma, by herself, in her large desolate house. Learning by accident that Mrs Jessel, a former dance teacher of repute, supposedly possesses a treasure somewhere in the house, Lucy and friends William and Ben decide to search the house in the hope of finding it. At night, they get into the house, which reveals itself to be increasingly peculiar. Their hunt for Mrs Jessel’s treasure leads them into a horrifying supernatural series of events that will change Lucy forever…
I like that description, but I love the poster. Seeing an insect in a human mouth is always a striking image (Drag Me To Hell will deliver there, too) and I like the design and use of color for the butterfly here. Inside had some utterly ridiculous plotting, but offered sickeningly visceral moments of horror, and so I’m excited to see what the duo does this time.
