Critics who’ve hit Sundance and SXSW are already starting to put together lists of the best films of the year, and at the top of most of these lies The Hurt Locker, Kathryn Bigelow’s movie about Explosive Ordinance Detonators (EODs) working in Iraq. Jeremy Renner’s performance is being hailed as career-making and Bigelow’s direction has been praised right and left for capturing the soul-destroying tension of the job.
We’ve seen an international trailer already, but this is the first official US clip, and it’s a thing of beauty. This trailer lets the characters and situations come through more than the international one did. The final sequence, which is capped by a shot buried within the international trailer, is a killer.
Apple has the trailer in all your favorite definitions. Watch it in HD, please, as that’s the best way to see how perfectly great and appropriate Barry (United 93, Green Zone) Ackroyd’s 16mm cinematography looks.
